Portrait of Bettie Collier

About me

I have been interested in psychology and mental health my whole life, going on to get an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. However, seeking a more person-centred role, I went on to study counselling. I gained my Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice in 2024 which allowed me to start my practice. I also continued my training, becoming qualified at Level 5 in Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling in 2025. I am now working solely as a counsellor, fulfilling my goal of helping people in tangible and long-lasting ways.

I pride myself on being empathetic and non-judgemental and this is reflected in my work, building connections and supporting people no matter the journey they are on.

How I work

First and foremost, I lead with empathy and compassion for my clients and focus on creating a safe space to explore what may be troubling you. The initial session is typically spent going over what has brought you to counselling, what may be your predominant needs and aims for your sessions and any questions you may have. It is a great chance for me to get to know you and to begin the understand how to best help you.

Successful therapy helps clients to be more self-aware and self-accepting and as a result, you may change your thought patterns and behaviours.

While I may use techniques from other methodologies where relevant or useful, my work is predominantly based in person-centred counselling.

“My role is to support you in gaining a better understanding of your emotions, thoughts and life situations.”

Testemonials

“Bettie is such a beautiful person inside and out. I’ve been in and out of various forms of therapy since I was around 14 and she’s the only person that has made me feel truly seen, truly heard and actually made that difference to my thoughts in my day to day life. The comfort I felt through all of my sessions was indescribable and part of that was the freedom of the sessions. I wasn’t tied down to a certain topic- we could dip in and out of different topics to loop back to the problem or trauma. There was no pressure in the sessions to make progress like in other therapies I’ve been in. Healing takes time and Bettie really reiterated this throughout our sessions and I just know as soon as things get difficult again I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to her”

I am now able to live my life and feel so much more at peace. I appreciate having someone who never judged me while I dealt with my difficulties. I cannot recommend Bettie enough.”
